Cat House

I'm in Texas it's hot, it's very hot...
So what does Rimmell do to relax?
He works with power tools in an un air conditioned garage.
We saw some cat climbing frames at the pet store. They were about $40 to $50. I figured I could get a lot of wood for $50.
So I started project Cat House.

  Floors cut from 3/4" ply.

Up rights cut from 2X4. At first I thought I'd use rope to act a scratching posts...

See that cat door in the background?...
Here's a video of the cats trying it out for the first time.

... but as the carpet is free and it took a $4 roll of rope to cover one post I went with the carpet.

There's a whole room of carpet being chucked out so let's cover everything with it.

Ground floor and first floor done.

I did get some rope so may as well use it.

Cutting grooves in the plywood... Lots and lots of grooves.

The grooves cutting was taking way too long so I put together this jig.

Following the success of the above jig I put this one together for cutting six posts exactly the same length in two passes of the saw. It looks a mess but there are only two things that matter the blue line shows the 90 degree angle and the red shows the cut line.

  Frame assembly.

Patches and Dr Bibbles test the first floor for strength and comfort.

Clamping the grooved ply to the top.

  Cat size hole template.

  Cat size hole cut.

  The Pope relaxes.

  Everyone relaxes.

A hammock made from one of Bet Lynch's old coats.

A bouncy frog... This will be in bits before I leave US air space.
